How It Works

Reading Arabic with word-by-word translation takes four steps. No account, no setup, nothing to install.

1. Upload your text or audio

Drag and drop a file onto the upload box, or click it to choose one from your device. Supported formats: plain text (.txt), PDF, Word documents (.docx), images (photos or scans of a page), and audio files. If the file is a scanned page or a photo, the text is automatically recognized (including harakat/diacritics) before anything else happens. If it's audio, it's automatically transcribed instead — see the audio section below.

Tip: this reader works best with plain text. For the cleanest results on a scanned PDF, convert it to text first — try Google Drive's free OCR (upload the PDF, then open it with Google Docs) for shorter documents, or i2OCR for longer ones — then upload the resulting .txt file here.

2. Pick your translation language

Choose the language you want meanings shown in from the language selector — over 130 languages are supported, not just English.

3. Read and click

Your text appears fully formatted and every word is clickable. Tap any word to see its meaning appear instantly in the side panel (or as a popup on phones). Words are translated on demand as you read, so there's no long wait before you can start.

4. Select a sentence for full translation

Want more than one word at a time? Highlight/select a whole sentence or phrase with your mouse or finger, and it's translated as a complete sentence instead of word-by-word — useful for understanding grammar and context, not just vocabulary.

5. Save words you're learning

Found a word worth remembering? Click "Save card" in the word panel to add it to My Cards, saved locally in your browser for later review — no account required.

Bonus: read along with audio

Upload an audio file instead of a document and it's transcribed automatically, then shown as normal tappable text with an audio player above it. The word currently being spoken is highlighted as it plays, and tapping any word both shows its translation and jumps playback to that word — so it works as a read-along in both directions.

Transcription uses a free, built-in engine by default — good enough for clear speech, weaker on recitation/nasheeds. If you want noticeably better accuracy, switch to the ElevenLabs option in Settings and paste your own ElevenLabs API key: transcription then runs on ElevenLabs directly from your browser, billed to your own ElevenLabs account at their normal rate — this site never sees your key and takes no cut.

Bonus: full-screen focus mode

On desktop or mobile, tap "Full display read" above the text to expand the reading area to fill your whole screen, hiding menus and controls until you tap "Exit full display." Once in focus mode, use the − / + buttons next to it to shrink or enlarge the Arabic text to whatever size is comfortable to read.
